Allgemeine Hinweise zur Installation von Umax SCSI Scannern unter Windows XP

Bitte bei allen Installationen die WindowsXP Logo Kompatibilitäts-Warnung ignorieren und Installation fortsetzen. Die Treiber sind Windows 2000 konform und daher auch unter WindowsXP ohne Einschränkung einsetzbar.

Nach der Treiberinstalltion starten Sie den Rechner nicht neu, wenn der Scanner über die Umax PCI SCSI-Karte DMX-3191 angeschlossen ist. Wird das gemacht, bootet WinXP nicht mehr. In dem Fall muß WinXP im abgesicherten Modus gestartet werden und der richtige Treiber manuell installiert werden. Nach der Treiberinstalltion und vor dem Neustart muß ein Win2000/XP kompatibler Treiber für die DMX-3191 Karte installiert werden. Für WinXP Installation gelten jeweils die aktuellen MagicScan/VistaScan Treiber für Win 2000.

Zur Installation der Umax ISA SCSI Karte UDS-IS11 laden Sie die aktuelle Treiberdatei DTC3X8X.sys herunter. Öffnen Sie das Fenster der Systemeigenschaften/Hardware und starten Sie den Hardware-Assistenten. Klicken Sie auf "Weiter/Ja.../Neue Hardware hinzufügen/Hardware aus der Liste wählen." In der Auswahlliste "SCSI & Raid-Controller" wählen und über "Datenträger" auf die entpackte dtc3x8x.inf verweisen. Vor der Fertigstellung "Erweitert" anklicken (siehe Bild) und dann aus der Liste die Adresse 340h auswählen.

Die Installtion von VistaScan sollte im benutzerdefiniertem Modus ohne die Installtion der Farbprofile durchgeführt werden.

In vielen Fällen werden die SCSI Scanner nach dem Neustart fehlerhaft erkannt und erscheinen acht mal im Gerätemanager. Eine Lösung für das Problem wäre ein Firmware-Update (außer Vista-Serie und Powerlook I und II). Eine zweite Lösung wäre die Änderung der Einträge in der WinXP Registry. Wenn der Scanner überhaupt nicht richtig erkannt wird und erscheint im Gerätemanager als unbekanntes Gerät, wählen Sie den Treiber manuell und verweisen Sie auf den MagisScan/VistaScan Treiber-Odner "Disk2". Auch hier muß die Warnung über die fehlende XP Signatur ignoriert werden

WindowsXP built-in drivers support directly basic scanning functions of this scanner. The installation of Umax drivers is not necessary. The limitation of the Microsoft drivers is the lack of support for scan buttons and transparency adapters. See Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List.

General notes on setting up Umax SCSI Scanners under Windows XP

For any installation please ignore the WindowsXP compatibility warning und continue the setup. Umax drivers are Windows 2000 compatible und can be used without limitation under WindowsXP.

After the driver installation do not reboot your computer if you hooked up the scanner using the Umax PCI SCSI controller DMX-3191. Doing so will prevent WinXP to boot correctly. In this case you might need to start WinXP in Safe Mode and install the proper driver manually. After the driver installation and before a reboot a Win2000/XP compatible driver for the DMX-3191 controller has to be installed. For the WinXP installation please use the latest MagicScan/VistaScan Win2000 driver.

To install the Umax ISA SCSI Interface UDS-IS11 download the current driver DTC3X8X.sys. Open the dialog "System Properties/Hardware" and launch the Hardware-Assistent. Klick on "Continue/Yes.../Add new hardware/Select from a list". In the hardware list select "SCSI & Raid-Controller" and click on the button "File" to select the expanded file dtc3x8x.inf. Before finishing click on "Extended" (see screenshot ) and select the address 340h.

For the VistaScan installtion please use the custom setup and do not install color profiles.

In many cases after the system reboot SCSI scanners will be improperly detected and have eight entries in the device manager. A solution to this problem might be a firmware upgrade (except for the Vista series and Powerlook I and II). Another solution might be a modification of a registry entry WinXP Registry. Should the Scanner not be detected at all and appears in the device manager as an unrecognized device, select the driver manually referring to the MagisScan/VistaScan driver folder "Disk2". WindowsXP compatibility warning should be ignored here as well
