DVD Players
- Why do color or brightness of the image pulsates?
You have probably connected your DVD player to a VCR, which passes the video
signal to the TV. The MacroVision copy protection of the DVD player does not
allow connecting the player to a VCR without picture corruption. Please connect
the DVD player directly to your TV.

- The sound comes only from two speakers, although 5.1 system is connected.
DVD players ship set to a two-channel output of a TV. For a six-channel output
you have to set the audio options accordingly. See Image.
For audioCDs and MP3 files two-channel output is used.

- VideoCDs I burn do not work properly in the DVD player!
The reason your DVD player does not play properly video CDs you create (staggering
blayback, picture only, sound only, green
picture) is in most cases a non-standard VCD format. The possible deviations
are picture resolution, framerate or video/audio bit rate. The proper values
are listed in the table below.
The fact that your PC plays the same CD is by no means a proof for a malfunction
of the DVD player. Due to the installed codecs, a PC can also play non-standard
formats. Current CD burning software (e.g. Nero www.ahead.de
) can recognize a non-standard format of the source file before burning and
even possibly correct it. See
Picture.

- DVD player detects no DVDs ("NO DISC") I created
At the attampt to play a DVD you created the player shows a massage "NO DISC".
The reason is probably the so called "Book Type" of the DVD. If the DVD does
not get recognized as DVD-ROM some players might not play these CDs. A possible
solution could be changing the DVD type. The burning software "NERO Burning
Rom", version 5.5.10.15 or later, allows selecting the appropriate option
before writing the CD (see picture).
Please note that some DVD writers might not support this option or do support
it only after a firmware upgrade. For furher information see: http://www.dvdplusrw.org/resources/bitsettings_pc.html
For a better compatibility with self created DVDs we suggest a firmware
upgrade for Yamada DVD-2000 and DVD-2100. (Instructions on updating procedure
are included in the upgrade file).

- PBC-ON / PBC-OFF on playback of VCD/SVCD
The player will not play VideoCDs or S-VCDs. The display shows first PBC-ON
and then PBC-OFF. For solution see the following images: false

To fix such a CD simply copy the movie file (biggest file of CD)from the CD to your PC and build a new VCD/S-VCD of it.

- What is progressive scan?
Progressive scan DVD players provide a improved picture quality by basically refreshing your image twice as fast . The TV or Video projector you use must be able to accept a progressive scan signal. With the prices dropping on progressive scan dvd players this may be a good option to have if you are planning to buy a new tv in the foreseeable future. Progressive scan dvd players will work on any tv since you can select interlaced output.

- What is a Dolby Pro-Logic Surround?
It is Dolby's analog stereo/surround sound technology
[Back to top]
- What is Dolby Digital(AC-3)?
Dolby Digital (AC-3) is a digital sound compression technique developed by the Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation. Supporting 5.1-channel surround sound, as well as stereo (2-channel) sound, this technique enables a large quantity of sound data to be efficiently recorded on a disc. However, nowadays, the understanding has become to be Dolby Digital (AC-3) = Dolby Surround = Dolby Digital 5.1.
- What is DTS?
DTS stands for Digital Theater Systems. While Dolby Digital is the standard 5.1 digital surround format on all DVD players, DTS is becoming a possible alternative. DTS, first introduced in the movie Jurassic Park, is now found on many film soundtracks. DTS soundtracks have been available on laserdiscs for the past couple of years, but we're only starting to see DVD titles with a DTS soundtrack. There are only about a dozen DVD movies with DTS now, but you can expect this number to grow. And there are quite a few CD titles that are DTS-encoded, from Mozart to Marvin Gaye. Buying a DVD player that's DTS-compatible shouldn't cost all that much more and could mean higher sound quality down the road
[Back to top]
- Why is my DVD Player Only Playing Back in Two Channels?
All DVD disks are encoded with Dolby Digital as the sound track format. This does not always mean that you will hear 5.1 channels. Some disks are encoded in 5.1 channels, some in Pro-Logic, some in 2-channel, and some in monaural. So, even though the disc says Dolby Digital, it does not necessarily mean 5.1 channels were originally recorded. Some disc jackets identify the number of channels, others do not. Also, some discs offer a menu to select the playback format.
- Why Are All DVD Disks Labeled "Dolby Digital" But Some Do Not Play in 5.1 Channel Surround?
Some DVDs play back in 5.1 channel surround, some in Dolby Surround, and some in mono or stereo. All DVD discs, however, are labeled DD because DD was selected as the primary encoding system for the DVD standard. But DD and 5.1 do not mean the same thing. In this case, DD is the "carrier" or vehicle that contains the sound track. The sound track can be anything from mono to 5.1 channel sound, but it is always encoded in DD on a DVD disc. Some disc packages identify the sound track contained on the disc, some do not.
DD is capable of downmixing a sound track. For example, if the DVD has a 5.1 channel sound track, it will also be able to play in Dolby Surround, stereo or mono. But if the disc only has Dolby Surround, it cannot "upmix" to 5.1 channels

You can use SRT and SUB format subtitles.

- DVX-6000: the player displays "NO DISK"
A common reason for the error "NO DISK" (although actually there is a disk in
the drive) is a faulty connection between the flat cable of the drive and the
player´s mainboard. The cable connects to the board through a clamp socket.
You can correct the problem on your own if you open the player´s housing
and correct the position of the cable in the socket. (See image.)

- HDD not working with MX205-USB?

- Jerky HDD Playback from MX205-USB?
Please note that the transfer rate of the USB controller is limited.
As the decoding is done in realtime you can compare the transfer rate with a CD-R.
If the files play well from CD they will play properly from USB.(Except for USB-Memory Sticks with lower transfer rate)
So in case you want to play VOB files or high bitrate files using more then 2000kbps you should play them from DVD.
